A Quiet Moment of Grace

Not every meaningful moment happens at the center of the celebration.

By Flavia Oyuu, Communications Office, Lira Diocese

On 29th December, 2024, as the Jubilee Year 2025 was launched with the opening of the Holy Doors, all eyes were fixed on the procession, the movement, the symbolism, the solemnity of the moment. Amid the flow of people and prayer, it was easy to miss what was happening at the roadside.

Two women, walking along the way, found themselves blocked by the procession. With no space to pass through, they did something unexpected. They knelt down right there by the roadside, not out of obligation, but in reverence. While the procession moved forward, their quiet act of faith unfolded unnoticed by many.

In that simple gesture, the meaning of the moment became clear. Faith does not always require a place at the centre. Sometimes, it is lived most deeply at the margins, in stillness and humility.

It is in such quiet moments that grace reveals itself. Sometimes, grace meets us not where the crowd gathers, but where humility chooses to kneel.
